Coworkers Rally Together To Buy A Brand New Car For Janitor Who Walks Miles To Work To His Knees

They transformed his life, They raised $7,000 to buy him a new car, bringing him to tears of gratitude. Robert Reed, his friendly attitude and desire to help others made him a staff favorite. Unfortunately, he didn’t own a car, which made it difficult for him sometimes to go to work. He had to walk miles and take three buses and get to the school and had to clean the entire school for hours. Life is anything but easy.

Recognizing Robert’s daily struggles, the school community made a collective decision to take matters into their own hands. They organized a fundraiser to buy a  truck to help with Robert’s transportation needs. Their mission is to provide a more convenient way to travel and make his life easier.

Robert’s Daily Journey: Every day, After finishing his janitorial duties, and embarked on a journey back to his home. After finishing work, he walks two kilometers and takes three buses to reach his house, usually arriving around as late as 7 p.m. Despite his challenging routine, Robert’s received support from his coworkers, they by driving him to the bus stop before he continued his journey and supported him.

Inspired by Robert’s story, Elizabeth Malone, one of Robert’s teachers at Farmington Elementary, launched a GoFundMe campaign to raise funds for a buy truck for Robert. His exceptional work and dedication motivated her to the school’s needs. This mission’s last goal was to collect $7,000.

The $7,000 target was nearly reached in less than 24 hours, which was the online fundraising campaign shows the extraordinary support for Robert. The influx of donations kept on coming, and at present, the contributions have exceeded $50,000, fivefold the initial target set by Malone.

Robert’s coworkers gathered on February 19 to present him with their plan and the funds raised. Overwhelmed with emotion, Robert himself is unable to restrain his tears upon discovering the incredible generosity shown towards him. His gratitude ran deep, as he saw the opportunity to purchase a truck that would significantly improve his daily life.

Thanks to the collected funds, Robert fulfilled purchased his dream truck—a 2019 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 in his favorite shade of red. This new  vehicle not only enhanced his transportation but also unlocked fresh opportunities for him. He launched his own lawn service business, with local businesses supporting him by providing the necessary equipment.

Reflecting Robert’s ethos and outstanding work, Elizabeth Malone emphasized the significance of kindness and giving back to the community. She encouraged others to follow his example and help those in need. By embracing a robust work ethic and offering support to others, we can create a positive influence in our surroundings.
